  • 2 teaspoons Dried Thyme or fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust to taste

For Braising Liquid

  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Chicken Broth or vegetable/beef broth
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar or white vinegar
  • 2 leaves Bay Leaves

  • Preheat the Oven: Start by setting your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Prepare Spice Rub: In a mixing bowl, combine the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, dried thyme, black pepper, and salt.
  • Season Pork: Pat the pork shoulder dry and rub the spice mixture all over the meat.
  • Sear the Pork: In a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, brown the pork shoulder on all sides for 2-3 minutes.
  • Prepare for Roasting: Place the pork on a wire rack over a baking sheet and pour the chicken broth and apple cider vinegar mixture around it.
  • Cover and Roast: Cover the pork with a lid or foil and roast for 3-4 hours.
  • Rest the Pork: Allow the pork to rest for 15-20 minutes before shredding.
