Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 60 ml
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar 45 ml
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh oregano or 1/2 teaspoon dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 slider buns preferably Hawaiian-style
  • 6 ounces sliced Italian deli meats (such as salami capicola, prosciutto), 170 g
  • 6 ounces sliced provolone cheese 170 g
  • 2 Roma tomatoes thinly sliced
  • 1/4 small red onion thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup sliced pickled banana peppers drained, 40 g
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce about 120 g

Instructions

  • In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey, oregano, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Set the dressing aside.
  • Without separating the slider buns, carefully slice the entire slab in half horizontally with a long serrated knife. Place the bottom half on a cutting board or sheet pan.
  • Arrange the assorted deli meats in an even layer over the bottom slab of buns.
  • Place the provolone cheese slices on top of the meat, covering it completely.
  • Distribute the sliced tomatoes, red onion, and pickled banana peppers evenly over the cheese.
  • Pile the shredded iceberg lettuce on top of the other fillings.
  • Whisk the dressing again, then drizzle it evenly all over the lettuce.
  • Place the top half of the buns over the lettuce. Press down gently to compact the sliders.
  • Using a large serrated knife, cut between the buns to separate them into 12 individual sliders. Serve immediately.

Notes

For easier slicing, you can chill the assembled block of sandwiches for 10-15 minutes before cutting them into individual portions.
To help prevent the buns from getting soggy, you can assemble the meat and cheese layers ahead of time. Add the vegetables, lettuce, and dressing just before serving.
Feel free to swap the vegetables. Thinly sliced cucumbers or roasted red peppers would also work well.
Store any leftover sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Note that the buns will soften over time.
