Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the russet potatoes into even chunks (about 2 inches).
  2. Place the potato chunks in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat and cook until fork-tender (15-20 minutes).
  3. Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the hot pot for a couple of minutes to steam off excess moisture.
  4. Mash the potatoes using a ricer or masher, gradually adding the softened butter and heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste; feel free to add garlic powder or fresh herbs for extra flavor!
  6. Serve warm in a bowl, optionally topped with additional butter.
