  • 4 cups sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
  • 1 lb lean ground beef or pork
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground meat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat and add chopped onion; sauté until translucent.
  3. In a bowl, mix the meat mixture with sauerkraut, garlic powder, paprika, and half of the shredded cheese.
  4. Layer half of the mixture in the baking dish. Top with half of the remaining cheese, then add the rest of the sauerkraut mixture. Finish with breadcrumbs and remaining cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
