  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring (gel)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the granulated sugar and vegetable oil until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Chill the dough covered in plastic wrap for about one hour.
  6. Scoop tablespoons of dough, roll into balls, and coat each ball in powdered sugar.
  7. Place dough balls on prepared sheets two inches apart and bake for 10-12 minutes until puffed and cracked.
