Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm water and active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and sea salt.
  3. Add olive oil to the frothy yeast mixture, then combine with the dry ingredients until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and spread it onto an oiled baking sheet to about half an inch thick. Dimple the surface with your fingers and sprinkle fresh herbs on top. Allow it to rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
