Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (100°F to 110°F)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and warm milk, stirring until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1 inch thick. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.
  6. Place rounds on a cornmeal-dusted baking sheet, cover them with a towel, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Cook on a griddle or bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
