Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in milk and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  5. Divide the batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Once cooled, slice each cake horizontally into two layers. Arrange layers in a circular wreath shape on a platter and decorate with whipped cream or frosting as desired.
