  • For Frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix vegetable oil, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients without overmixing.
  5. Divide batter equally between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks. Prepare frosting by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  7. Frost between layers and on top of cooled cakes.
