  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth. Combine with dry ingredients and stir until just mixed.
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Allow cakes to cool in pans for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. For frosting, beat softened butter with cocoa powder and gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
  7. Layer cakes with frosting in between and cover the entire cake with frosting.
