  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 tbsp espresso powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and espresso powder until combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with milk to the wet mixture until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
