Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans with butter and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs with sugar until fluffy. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat softened butter and cocoa until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached.
  7. Frost the cooled cakes generously between layers and on top.
