Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dough: Warm the milk until lukewarm. Sprinkle in yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Combine ingredients: Add melted butter and eggs to the flour mixture along with the yeast mixture. Stir until combined but slightly sticky.
  3. Knead and rise: Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled—about 1 hour.
  4. Prepare filling: Mix sugar with cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick.
  5. Assemble rolls: Spread melted butter over the dough, sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture, roll tightly from one edge into a log shape.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice log into approximately twelve pieces and arrange in a greased baking dish. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Frost: Let cool slightly before spreading cream cheese frosting on top.
