  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu, pressed
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu between paper towels for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix cornstarch with a pinch of salt and pepper. Coat each tofu cube evenly.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Fry the tofu cubes in batches for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, gochujang, maple syrup, and minced garlic.
  6. Return fried tofu to the skillet on low heat, pour sauce over it, and toss gently to coat.
  7. Transfer to serving plates and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
